Overview

Curved bar joinery is hard enough to build accurately, harder again airside in a working terminal. Complete Construction delivered the fitout of Portal Bar & Eatery at Christchurch International Airport for SSP. Sitting in a high traffic part of the terminal, the venue pairs raw textures and soft lighting with curved architectural elements.

Key challenges

• Delivering in a live, fully operational terminal.
• Meeting Christchurch Airport’s safety, acoustic and compliance standards.
• Coordinating access and services with overlapping trades.

How we solved it

We ran the works in off peak hours and kept close contact with airport operations. Prefabricated elements were delivered just in time, and the services were tightly coordinated to meet both the design and the compliance demands.

Outcome

Portal opened on time and to spec, and is now a standout hospitality space in the terminal. Portal puts Complete Construction’s airport fitout capability on show in a live, high pressure terminal.
